PIE PLATES AND CROCKS

Pie plates and crocks are traditional items made by potters of this area in Eastern PA. Good pie-baking has been a long-standing tradition in my own family and continues to this day.

Found on an old pie plate: "I made this dish without a pie. Now make a pie without a dish." - Jacob Medinger ( potter near Limerick, PA, early 1900's)

9" Pie Plate with fluted rim
Brown stoneware with oatmeal glaze showing random speckles
Price: $37.00

The pie plates are made with a speckled brownstone clay fired to stoneware temperatures (about 2230 F) The design is hand-painted with blue underglaze and then a durable food safe glaze is applied. Made for 9" pies, the outside rim is 10".

A ceramic plate is excellent for baking pies -- it bakes evenly and makes scrumptious pies! Of course, a good recipe and baker's touch helps!
